During the last four years, Giorgi Kajaia served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in the Interests Section of Georgia at the Embassy of Switzerland in the Russian Federation in Moscow. He replaced Zurab Abashidze, who had held the position of special representative since the end of 2012.
Irakli Kobakhidze thanked Zurab Abashidze for his successful work and stated that Abashidze had decided to leave his post.
“As you know, he has been the Prime Minister's special representative for relations with Russia for many years, serving in this role with great success for more than 10 years. We have achieved significant milestones in various areas, thanks to his efforts, participation, and involvement. I want to thank him for his many years of service to the state and wish him success in his new position,” said Kobakhidze.
From now on, Zurab Abashidze will be an advisor to the Prime Minister. He confirmed that he applied to the then-head of the government, Irakli Gharibashvili, about leaving the post of special representative a few months ago. "The logic was very simple: 12 years have passed since 2012, everything has a beginning and an end," noted Abashidze.
Zurab Abashidze represented Georgia in international negotiations between Georgia and Russia in Geneva for 12 years.
