Giorgi Rurua has described his summons to the State Security Service (SSS) as "Another stupidity."
"I received a notice from the Georgian State Security Service. The case is being pursued under two charges - coup d'état and violent overthrow. They’ve obviously got the wrong address. The real coup and overthrow of the state were carried out by the Russian Dream under the leadership of one man, and I let him go to Sololaki. Could you remind me of the address of this man? I believe his first name is Bidzina, and his last name starts with an 'I.' This is a circus - what else could it be, as we say in my beloved regional side," Rurua wrote on Facebook.
The State Security Service has not released any information regarding the ongoing investigation.
Giorgi Rurua, who owns a 2.5% stake in the TV company Mtavari Arkhi, was arrested in November 2019 and sentenced to four years in prison for the illegal purchase, storage, and carrying of weapons. Rurua denied the charges, claiming that a weapon had been planted on him and attributing the arrest to his participation in protests, calling himself a political prisoner. In April 2021, President Salome Zourabichvili pardoned him.
