Based on the Central Election Commission's (CEC) appeal, since polling stations are located in public schools and kindergartens, regular activities on working days may hinder the timely setup of the polling stations.
The CEC explains that for the proper functioning of the precinct election commissions in the upcoming parliamentary elections of Georgia, a crucial stage is the arrangement of the election precincts, which takes place the day before voting. On this day, the necessary inventory and equipment will be placed at the election precincts.
"Out of 3031 election precincts, 483 are located in kindergarten buildings, 1675 in public school buildings, and 873 in other types of buildings. Due to the fact that various activities, especially in public schools and kindergartens, are carried out on working days, it is requested that October 25, 2024, be declared a public holiday. This will help prevent any disruption to the timely and orderly setup of the election precincts," the government administration stated in a release.
Parliamentary elections will be held on Saturday, October 26. Voters will elect 150 deputies to the Parliament of Georgia for a four-year term through a proportional election system. To gain parliamentary representation, a political union must surpass the 5% threshold.
