"The President does not sign the ambassadors nominated by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, although those plans have not changed. I am ready to serve our country once again in diplomacy. I am in communication with the Foreign Affairs Minister. We are also considering establishing an embassy in another country, of course, in partner countries again, and I will use my resources as much as possible to deepen relations with partners," Burchuladze said in an interview with the Mtavari Arkhi.
The former minister clarified to the TV Pirveli station that his candidacy had not been submitted to the president: "As far as I know, the nominations will not be sent before the elections. I reaffirm my readiness once again."
Furthermore, the government administration asserts that they have not halted the process of appointing ambassadors. According to their explanation, they have not submitted Juansher Burchuladze's candidacy to the president for approval.
The president has not yet responded to this issue. In 2022, Salome Zourabichvili disagreed with the appointment of Davit Bakradze, the former ambassador of Georgia to the United Nations, as the permanent representative of Georgia to the United Nations; however, she eventually signed the relevant decree. Prior to this, the government had appealed to the Constitutional Court to establish the constitutionality of the President's actions. Following Bakradze's appointment, the constitutional dispute was resolved.
Juansher Burchuladze resigned from his position as Defense Minister following the nomination of Irakli Kobakhidze as Prime Minister and indicated that he was contemplating continuing his career in the diplomatic service. "I have received an offer, for which I thank the new Prime Minister, to consider the position of ambassador to NATO. It will be four months from now. I will likely accept this position, although I have time to ponder. These four months will serve as a period of rest from my 13-year civil service, and during this time, I will decide whether to pursue further diplomatic service," Burchuladze said on February 1st.
Since May 2020, Viktor Dolidze has served as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to NATO.
