The Information Center on NATO and the EU, a LEPL within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs established in 2005, is being abolished. Temur Sukashvili, the center's representative in the Kvemo Kartli region, has released a letter informing him of his dismissal with one month's notice. According to the letter, by order of Deputy Foreign Minister Khatuna Totladze issued on May 29, the center's liquidation is planned for July 1.
"What do the initiators, issuers, or executors of this liquidation order care? They have money, power, and access to resources. They can ensure a carefree future for their children. Despite isolationism, with unlimited resources, anything is possible. But what about us? How do we tell our children that their future was stolen from under our very eyes?! That we were condemned to an uncertain, vague future? How did they turn this country into a playground for Russians? I hope I won't be arrested for this moderate criticism. What more proof do you need that the country's leaders intend to completely change course and block all paths leading to the European Union and NATO?" writes Temur Sukashvili.
According to the press center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the center will be merged with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of a reorganization.
The Information Center on NATO and the EU aimed to provide the public with comprehensive and objective information on Georgia's integration issues with the North Atlantic Organization (NATO) and, thereby, to gain informed public support. In 2013, another focus was added: the European Union and activities related to its information campaign.
For 19 years, the Information Center on NATO and the EU operated throughout Georgia through its central office in Tbilisi and 10 regional representations.
Since 2019, the center has been led by Tamara Tsuleiskiri, who is the wife of Georgian Dream MP and President of the Football Federation, Levan Kobiashvili.
In 2023, during discussions about the so-called Russian law on "foreign agents," which Levan Kobiashvili also supported, Tamara Tsuleiskiri called on citizens on Facebook to unfriend her husband's critics on social media and cut ties with them in real life if they called him a traitor.
