The Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, stated that it is important to investigate all the details of the criminal actions committed by the United National Movement government in connection with the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.

"Nothing diminishes the crime of Russia - the crime of aggression and war, or the occupation - but we should also ask our fellow Georgians who were in power at the time what they did or failed to do," Papuashvili said.
"Let's not forget that the treacherous nature of the National Movement was evident in their support for the resolution adopted by the European Council shortly after the declaration of war, in which they directly accused Georgian war veterans of war crimes. In fact, they laid the groundwork for our soldiers to be tried in an international court. They did this in 2008. Not only are they guilty of involvement in the war, but they also abandoned the dead from that war, leaving the church to transport the bodies. They abandoned the civilian population, doing nothing during the middle of the war, not even lifting a finger to help those trapped in the conflict. They abandoned dead soldiers and civilians, and on top of that, supported a resolution that accused fallen soldiers of war crimes. Georgian Dream reversed this trial, which ultimately found that no Georgian soldier had committed war crimes and that it was the Russian army responsible for those crimes. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate all the criminal actions of that government.
In 2008, if a patriotic government like the Georgian Dream had been in power instead of the National Movement, there would have been no war.
There would not have been more than 400 dead soldiers and civilians, Georgia would not have lost control over 125 villages, there would not have been more than 1 700 wounded people, and there would have been no recognition of independence, among other things. None of this would have happened if Georgian Dream had been in power in 2008, instead of the National Movement. Just as we prevented a war in Georgia in 2022, there would have been no war in 2008 either. We need to thoroughly investigate the betrayal that took place in August 2008," said Shalva Papuashvili.
Georgian Dream will initiate a public legal process related to the August war, where the plaintiff will be the party itself, following the parliamentary elections, declaring that the National Movement will have to be held accountable for the "treasonous crime".
