The employees of the National Public Registry Agency have stated that their employment contracts will not be extended beyond January 2025. They associate the agency's decision, which they learned about late in the evening on December 30, with their protest against the Georgian Dream party's stance on suspending the European integration process and their intention to join rallies.

"A few hours ago, I received a phone call informing me that the National Public Registry Agency would not be renewing my contract, citing that my role is no longer needed. Of course, no one believes this explanation. It appears that a 'law of cuts' has been implemented.
I was among the first to sign a petition condemning violence against our fellow citizens and demanding the enforcement of Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia.
Several other employees were dismissed alongside me, including staff from the Kutaisi office who had also signed the petition. All of this happened quite unexpectedly, right on the eve of the New Year [...] I appeal to my former colleagues: what happened today is a classic example of intimidation and repression. If we grow accustomed to it now, anyone could be the next target," said Elsa Geladze.
The agency has also chosen not to renew Ani Gurasashvili's contract. He stated that he had anticipated a decision of this nature from the agency.
The Public Registry has also decided not to extend Ani Gurasashvili's contract. He stated that he had anticipated such a decision from the agency.
"This decision is directly related to my public stance on the current events in the country. I had no doubt that such a decision would be made, especially after the head of the registry met with us employees and explicitly asked us to choose a side: to either remain loyal to the government or openly declare that we no longer wished to work within the system. The question, 'Do you recognize the legitimacy of the government?' not only amounts to clear pressure on employees but is also legally absurd. Even now, I maintain my belief that Georgia's future lies in Europe and that the struggle for freedom continues," said Gurasashvili.
After two years of collaboration, Mayor Tagoshvili will also no longer be able to continue working at the National Public Registry Agency.
"During non-working hours, at 9:08 p.m., I was informed via telephone and email that the validity of the employment contract between the Public Registry and me had expired. The reason given was the small volume of remaining work, which the organization claimed made it impossible to sign a new employment contract," said Tagoshvili. He also believes that the non-renewal of his contract is linked to his signing of the petition and his opposition to the anti-European stance of the Georgian Dream.

It is also reported that more than ten employees have been dismissed from the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Non-Custodial Sentences Enforcement, and Probation, which operates under the Ministry of Justice, like the Civil Registry. Some of the dismissed social workers have already taken legal action, appealing to the court.
