7 Arrested by Criminal Police Facing Up to 9 Years in Prison

The Director of the Central Criminal Police Department, Teimuraz Kupatadze, stated that on December 4, the offices of opposition parties and the apartments of activists were searched as part of an ongoing investigation into the organization, leadership, or participation in group violence, as well as public calls for violent actions.

According to Kupatadze, due to urgent necessity, the private residences of six individuals were searched. Based on a judge's ruling, investigative activities were carried out at the offices of the Jiutebi (Stubborn) movement, the Droa party, the

Girchi party, and the youth office of the United National Movement party.

"As a result of the personal searches of the arrested individuals, law enforcement officers seized the following as evidence: helmets, air rifles, a large quantity of pyrotechnics, electrical equipment, computer equipment, and more. Additionally, Molotov cocktails, paints, and various solutions were found, for which appropriate examinations have been assigned," said Teimuraz Kupatadze.

As Kupatadze stated, based on the judge's decision, seven individuals have been arrested on charges of organizing and leading group violence, as well as participating in group violence. The arrested individuals are I.A., born in 1990; T.G., born in 1999; I.M., born in 2005; G.G., born in 2004; Z.C., born in 2005. Additionally, members of the Strong Georgia coalition, Vefkhia Kasradze and Vasil Kadzelashvili, have been arrested on charges. As Teimuraz Kupatadze mentioned, both were previously convicted: V.K., born in 1971, and V.K., born in 1974. These crimes are punishable by up to 9 years of imprisonment.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is conducting an investigation under Articles 187 and 353 of the Criminal Code, which pertain to property damage and assault on a police officer. Six individuals have been detained in connection with this investigation.

"The investigation continues to identify and arrest all perpetrators of the crime. Any illegal action will be met with an appropriate legal response from the police," said Teimuraz Kupatadze.

Kupatadze did not comment on the arrest of Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Coalition for Change.
