Nika Gvaramia Arrested as Police Raid Opposition Party Offices

Nika Gvaramia, a leader of the Coalition for Change and founder of the Ahali Party, has been arrested by the police. Gela Khasaia, a member of the Girchi - More Freedom party, has also been detained.

Gvaramia requested to be allowed into the coalition’s central office, where a search was underway. After a verbal altercation, one of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' employees issued an order for his arrest. Nika Gvaramia was pushed to the ground and forcibly taken to a police car.

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department also searched the office of the youth organization Unity - National Movement.

Today, due to urgent necessity and without a court ruling, the police also conducted a search of the apartment of Ilia Glonti, the founder of the Daitove group. According to the police officers, the case has been initiated in the Criminal Police Department under Articles 225 and 2391 of the Criminal Code, which cover organizing, leading, or participating in group violence and publicly calling for violent actions.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not provided any explanation regarding the searches.
