Employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested 28-year-old Andro Chichinadze, an actor from the New Theater. Chichinadze is the brother-in-law of Elene Khoshtaria, the chairperson of the opposition Droa party. He had been participating in the protests on Rustaveli Avenue over the past week. Chichinadze was arrested today, December 5, at his home.

As per a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, five individuals have been arrested in Tbilisi and the Imereti region on charges of organizing, leading, participating in, and publicly calling for violent actions. The arrested individuals are identified as O.C., born in 1996; G.M., born in 1990; J.A., born in 1975; A.CH., born in 1996; and R.S., a foreign citizen born in 1997.
"As a result of complex investigative actions, it was established that the defendants disobeyed and resisted employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during the ongoing protests on Rustaveli Avenue. They also actively participated in group violence and threw various objects at police officers.
During searches of the defendants’ personal belongings and residences, law enforcement officers seized mobile phones, computer equipment, military clothing, and explosives as evidence.
Additionally, as part of the ongoing investigation, and due to urgent necessity, a search was conducted in the residential apartments of four individuals in Tbilisi. Law enforcement officers confiscated firearms, a large amount of cash, memory cards, and computer equipment," The Ministry’s statement noted.
The investigation is being conducted under the first and second parts of Article 225 and the first part of Article 239 of the Criminal Code. These articles pertain to organizing, leading, or participating in group violence and publicly calling for violent actions. The crimes are punishable by up to nine years in prison.
