"This week, the President instructed law enforcement agencies to implement additional restrictions to strengthen the work of border guards in the Gali region. We will carry out this task, and if the situation worsens, we will seek to increase our forces there and be prepared for any provocation," said Lolua.
On October 18, a meeting of the Security Council of the de facto Republic of Abkhazia was held, and a decision was made to close the Enguri Bridge from October 23 to October 30. Only citizens of the so-called Republic and individuals with residence permits returning to Abkhazia, as well as employees of "Engurhesi," will be allowed to cross into the occupied region.
"The decision to close the border is related to the parliamentary elections in Georgia. This practice has been employed before - we closed the border during various events in Georgia because there have been numerous instances of pickets, rallies, etc., organized near the border. Therefore, to control the situation and facilitate our border guards' work, this decision was made," said Raul Lolua.
The secretary of the so-called Security Council added that they are closely monitoring the situation throughout Georgia and are considering options for improving conditions in relation to Abkhazia.
