“Since September of last year, a completely new situation has emerged in the region. Azerbaijan has fully restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Naturally, this new situation opens up opportunities for establishing a durable and long-term peace in the South Caucasus. The stability and security of the entire South Caucasus region depend significantly on the close interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan,” Aliyev said.
Vladimir Putin stated that the relationship between Azerbaijan and Armenia remains a priority. He emphasized that Russia will continue to work towards normalizing this relationship and securing a peace treaty.
“We are also ready to assist in the delimitation and demarcation of the border, considering that we have the relevant documents dating back to the days of the Soviet Union, the unblocking of cross-border routes, and the establishment of humanitarian contacts. We believe that lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus fully meet the fundamental interests of all nations in this region,” Putin said.
The President of Russia was on a state visit to Baku from August 18-19 and thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the invitation.
