The journalist from the Publica publication asked Irakli Kobakhidze at the briefing whether he plans to meet with the protest participants or facilitate mediation.
"It's never just a matter of timing; I don't avoid meetings. However, any information I have is not solely company-related. Initially, three people were involved, but I don’t know how this rally is currently organized. Such demonstrations often coincide with the pre-election period, which is unfortunate.
From what I understand, one person received 80 000 GEL in compensation, another received 50 000. Even though these amounts were taken and handed over, the election came and… this is the information I have. If this is a lie and it's incorrect… I promise to provide you with more detailed information before the next briefing. If these three individuals truly received this money, then why did they start this protest?
I want to reiterate that I have never avoided meeting people, and I am ready to do so here as well, but the main thing is to follow the rules.
I promise to investigate further and understand the situation in more detail before the next briefing.
If the principle of justice is violated in any way, nothing can impede the realization of that principle.
Do you know what the meeting depends on? If the positions are correct and the truth is on the side of the protesters, and if there are no resources to resolve the relationship between the company and these individuals, then a meeting is necessary. However, if there are alternative resources, it is better for the company and the relevant individuals to settle among themselves," Kobakhidze stated.
16 participants of the traffic light protest near the Parliament are on a hunger strike, including 8 women.
The residents of Shukruti have one demand: that Georgian Manganese, which is destroying their homes due to manganese mining, assess the damage through the National Bureau of Forensic Expertise and provide fair compensation. For 6 months before arriving in Tbilisi, the residents of Shukruti held protests in Chiatura, but they were unable to attract the attention of the authorities.
16 families among the protest participants have not received any compensation for the damage. A meager amount has been deposited for a few families. Georgian Manganese has only paid a relatively substantial amount to 6 people, in some cases in the form of an advance.
