Russian forces launched approximately 300 drones and 8 missiles against Ukraine, striking a total of 27 locations in Kyiv, primarily targeting educational institutions and residential buildings.
According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, 10 children are among the injured. This marks the largest number of children injured in Kyiv in a single night since the start of the full-scale war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that in addition to Kyiv, which was Russia's primary target, the attack also affected the Dnipro, Poltava, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions.
"Today, the world once again saw Russia’s response to our desire for peace, shared with America and Europe. New, showcase killings. That is why peace without strength is impossible. But forcing Moscow to make peace, compelling them to come to a real negotiating table — all the tools needed for this are in the hands of our partners. We are counting on everything now being voiced by America and Europe toward this goal to be fulfilled," stated Zelenskyy.
The Russian attack occurred against the backdrop of an ultimatum issued by U.S. President Donald Trump to Russia. In an audio recording released by the White House on July 29, Trump stated that he was reducing the 50-day deadline given to Russia to stop the war to 10 days. Earlier, on July 14, Trump had warned Putin that if a peace agreement in Ukraine was not reached within 50 days, the U.S. would impose 100%, "severe" tariffs.
According to the same recording, Trump is uncertain whether this will impact Moscow, as " Putin wants to obviously probably keep the war going."
The new U.S. restrictions are expected to include secondary sanctions against countries that continue to purchase Russian oil, gas, and other commodities, including China and India.
