Eviction Process Underway on Tvalchrelidze Street in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, Varketili, on Tvalchrelidze Street N1, families, including displaced persons, are being forcibly evicted from buildings. In addition to enforcement police, patrol police officers are also present at the scene. Some locals say they have nowhere to go.

"I'm left on the street with three children. Where should I take my children?! We have nowhere to go. There is no danger. Did they bring an expert? Did they show us anything? It's not an emergency building," says one resident.

According to another local, Tbilisi City Hall offered to cover their rent for three months and pay them ₾300: "After three months, we'll be on the street again. This is logical, isn't it?! The talk was only about ₾300 rent, and that too for three months. There were no other offers."

According to the National Bureau of Enforcement, five buildings are in a black frame condition, fully amortized, and dangerous to the health and lives of the people living there.

"This is confirmed by the Samkharauli expertise conclusion, which unequivocally states that the load-bearing walls of the buildings are damaged and there is a danger of their collapse at any time." According to the National Bureau of Enforcement, "to reach an agreement between the parties and fully protecting their interests," the eviction process has already been postponed twice.

More than a hundred families live in the buildings. As the National Bureau of Enforcement states, 58 individuals have the status of displaced persons:

"Out of these, 24 individuals have been satisfied by the state within the framework of various programs, 29 individuals have filled out applications for receiving an apartment and purchasing a house in the village. Among them, 6 individuals have already received a positive response. Some of the 39 families living at the address have already received offers. 53 families occupy spaces but do not live at the address. They started renovation works in recent months to purposefully demand compensation later."

The building owner, Black Sea Property company, applied to the court regarding the eviction. The National Bureau of Enforcement calls on "illegally intruded persons" to vacate the buildings. Otherwise, the Bureau is “obliged to enforce the court's decision to protect property rights and the principle of the rule of law."
