In Georgia, from January to June 2024, there were 18,633 live births. During the same period, 22,265 people died in the country. According to data from the National Statistics Service, the natural decrease, which is the difference between the number of live births and the number of deaths, was 3,632 people. A positive natural increase was recorded only in Tbilisi (478) and Adjara (621).

According to Geostat, from January to June 2024, the highest number of live births was recorded in Tbilisi (6901), while the lowest was in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti (115). In the same region, 259 people died.
The highest negative natural increase was recorded in Imereti (-1,512), where 2,087 children were born, and 3,599 people died. The second highest negative natural increase was in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (-1,094), with 1,125 live births and 2,219 deaths registered in the region.
In Kakheti, there were 1,374 live births, and 2,002 people died, making Kakheti the third region with the highest negative natural increase (-628).
The difference between live births and deaths was relatively small in Kvemo Kartli (-43), where 2,174 live births and 2,217 deaths were recorded.
Compared to the first half of 2023, the birth rate in Georgia decreased, while the death rate increased. According to Saxstat, from January to June last year, 19,431 children were born, and 21,944 people died, resulting in a negative natural increase of 2,513.
Additionally, compared to the first half of 2023, the number of registered marriages decreased in the first six months of this year, while divorces increased. Last year, during this period, 10,366 marriages and 6,828 divorces were registered, whereas this year’s data shows 9,924 registered marriages and 6,859 divorces.
According to Geostat, updated demographic data for 2024 will be available at the end of March 2025.
