"The party was founded by citizens who believe that the future of this country is in the hands of its people. Among us are those who believe that for Georgia’s future to be just and strong, its citizens must become stronger and more influential. Among us are those who see it as their mission to cleanse the Georgian political system of the remnants of its Russian totalitarian past and to establish a new republic. Among us are those who have not been swayed by the corrupt political spectrum into believing that Georgia’s historical mission to become an equal member of the European family is impossible," said Chergoleishvili.
Giga Bokeria spoke about the upcoming parliamentary elections, stating that only twice in his life had elections of such importance taken place - once in 1990, when the country regained its independence, and again in 2003.
"The main reason we have gathered here today, aside from the legal foundation of our political party, is that in a few days, we must defend the primary choice of our several million citizens. We must protect the freedom, statehood, and sovereignty of our country, as well as the right and opportunity for future generations to live in a free, European, Georgian state.
Whatever antipathy we may feel towards the current opposition spectrum (and I won’t hide that I have such feelings), the threat our country faces from today's Russian-spirited regime is so great that it outweighs almost all of that antipathy. Therefore, we do not have the luxury of choice; we have a duty to stand against this regime in the coming days," said Bokeria.
At today’s congress, the party’s charter was approved, and members of the political council were elected.
In 2017, Giga Bokeria, Tamar Chergoleishvili, Giorgi Noniashvili, Vakhtang Kaloiani, and others left the European Georgia party, which had been formed after splitting from the United National Movement. The reason for the split was intra-party primaries. Those who remained in European Georgia joined the Unity - National Movement coalition, with one of the party’s leaders, Gigi Tsereteli, securing the seventh spot on the coalition’s electoral list. As for the Federalists, they will not participate in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
