"Georgia's authorities bear full responsibility for the termination of accession negotiations with the European Union," Benjamin Haddad wrote on Platform X.
He stated that France, along with its European partners, will continue to maintain close ties with the people of Georgia and support their European aspirations.
"Fundamental freedoms, political pluralism, and civil society must be protected. Repression against rally participants must stop," Haddad emphasized.
Haddad's statement was shared on X by the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, who expressed gratitude for the support of France and European partners.
"The Georgian people will not give up!" wrote the president.
On November 28, the illegitimate Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced the decision of Georgian Dream that Georgia would not put the opening of accession negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028 and would refuse EU budget grants. President Salome Zourabichvili condemned this decision, calling it the starting point of a "constitutional coup" and stating that the illegitimate government had declared war on its own people.
Kobakhidze's announcement triggered protests from thousands of citizens. Units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have harassed and brutally beaten rally participants as well as journalists. During the first two days of protests, the number of arrests exceeded 150.
Amid these developments, the United States of America suspended its strategic partnership with Georgia. According to Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the State Department, Georgian Dream's decision to halt the process of joining the European Union is a betrayal of Georgia's Constitution.
