The United States Helsinki Commission asserts that the ruling Georgian Dream is dragging Georgian citizens away from their chosen path of Euro-Atlantic integration and toward an alliance with aggressors seeking to undermine the democratic world order.

“Despite massive resistance from people, the Georgian Dream continues to integrate with the world’s autocrats.
In June, Georgian PM Kobakhidze attended Iranian President Pezeshkian’s inauguration following earlier Georgian Dream efforts to strengthen economic ties between Iran and Georgia. In turn, reports suggest that Iranian proxies supported Georgian Dream’s campaign, spreading anti-Western narratives,” States Helsinki Commission
The statement highlights that Georgian Dream has a strategic partnership agreement with China, and a Chinese consortium is constructing a large-scale deep-sea port in Anaklia as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
“Should Georgian Dream prevail in seizing power, the party would turn Georgia into a venue for power projection and economic opportunity not only for its Russian patrons, but also for China and Iran, with whom Georgian Dream has become increasingly close,” the Helsinki Commission states.
