Giorgi Gabitashvili, the Prosecutor General of Georgia, who the United Kingdom sanctioned for human rights violations in the country, is being transferred by Georgian Dream to the position of Chief Auditor. His candidacy was presented today by Ivanishvili Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

Papuashvili stated that electing Gabitashvili as Chief Auditor would significantly strengthen the State Audit Office.
"I have decided to nominate Giorgi Gabitashvili's candidacy for the position of Chief Auditor. His approval as Chief Auditor will significantly strengthen the auditor’s office and ensure we reach the goals we presented to the public during the pre-election period – goals for which we received a mandate from the Georgian people," Papuashvili said.
From September 21, 2022, to June 3, 2025, Tsotne Kavlashvili held the position of Chief Auditor. He is returning to his previous role as Deputy Minister of Finance.
The Parliament elects the Chief Auditor for a 5-year term based on the nomination of the Parliament Speaker, with the majority of the full composition.
The State Audit Office is the supreme audit body. Its objectives are to promote the legality, expediency, and effectiveness of the spending and use of state funds and other state material assets, to protect national wealth and the property of state, autonomous republics, and local self-governing units, and to improve public finance management.

According to Imedi, the propaganda TV channel of Georgian Dream, Giorgi Gvarakidze will serve as the acting Prosecutor General. Gvarakidze was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General before Gabitashvili's resignation. From May 13, 2025, Gvarakidze was the Prosecutor of Tbilisi, and before that, he held the position of Deputy Head of the Special Cases Investigation Department of the Special Investigation Service.
