Compared to 2021, in 2022 the number of students who stopped studying at school for the reason of going abroad with their families has doubled. According to the data of the Office of the Public Defender, in the last 2 years, for this reason, the status of a student in Georgian schools was terminated for 8206 children.
There are also many such statements that do not indicate the reason for the termination of studies.
Most students dropped out from schools of Tbilisi, Kvemo Kartli, and Adjara.
According to the data of the National Statistics Office, the number of emigrants increased in 2022 - 100,802 citizens of Georgia left the country. In the same period, 54,405 citizens returned to Georgia.
According to the results of the research published by the National Democratic Institute in February 2023, every fifth citizen is thinking of going to work abroad. The number of people wanting to leave is particularly high among people under 50 - almost one in three of them are considering emigrating.
The population names rising prices, lack of jobs, and poverty among the biggest challenges in the country. 48% of respondents, i.e. almost every second citizen, assess the economic situation of Georgia as ‘’bad.’’ 9% say that the economic situation is good, and 42% think it is ‘’average.’’ At the same time, 50% are not sure that the government will be able to solve economic problems.
According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, the government has done everything that ‘’there is peace, stability, and high economic growth in the country, unemployment and poverty have reached a historical minimum.’’
In 2023, approximately 700,000 people in Georgia will receive subsistence allowance, which is almost 300,000 more than in 2015.
