"Today, Khatia Dekanoidze returns to the ranks of the Unity - National Movement, which is very welcome. Dekanoidze will begin her role as the deputy chairman of the National Committee, initiated by Mikheil Saakashvili. A few days ago, the United National Movement congress elected me as the chairman of the National Committee. From today, Khatia will serve as the deputy chairman of the National Committee.
It is crucial that a person like Khatia Dekanoidze remains within the ranks of the National Movement, in this great unity. This is a good start, and I am confident that many more interesting and serious individuals will join this great fight.
I am certain that on October 26, Georgian Dream will move into the opposition, and today’s opposition forces will form the majority in the Parliament of Georgia. This is inevitable," said Nakopia at an emergency briefing. He also stated that "the spirit of this unity" is Mikheil Saakashvili.
As Khatia Dekanoidze noted, her decision was preceded by consultations, including with former President Mikheil Saakashvili.
"The country is in grave danger. Today, Georgian Dream announced a very simple thing: if they win, they will abolish parties, eliminate non-governmental organizations, and the country will descend into dictatorship. Therefore, any politician should rise above self-centeredness and personal concerns. Naturally, my return to the platform from which I started fighting a few years ago is nothing special; it is simply logical," Dekanoidze said, noting that she sees her role in the fight against Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Khatia Dekanoidze's return to the National Movement was criticized by fellow party member, MP Ana Tsitlidze, who called her a "prodigal son." "Not for the sake of unity, but for the sake of the parliamentary list. Realize that you are not needed anywhere else, that you have no chance, and we will accept you. But no matter what position you bargain for on the list, your authority among the voters of the National Democratic Party is zero," Tsitlidze addressed Dekanoidze.
Khatia Dekanoidze, who was the chairman of the United National Movement - Strength in Unity faction in parliament, left the party and her position as faction head in March 2023. This decision followed the election of Levan Khabeishvili as the party chairman. In addition to disagreeing with Khabeishvili's chairmanship, Dekanoidze had a different opinion on the elections to the Political Council and the boycott of Parliament. She also expressed displeasure with the influence of former Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili on the party.f
