"Davit Zalkaliani resigned from his position. I had a conversation with him. Everyone has different levels of willpower, and in this case, I would like to express my solidarity with Davit Zalkaliani, who faced significant pressure from various sides. This pressure was not related to the Nazis (National Movement), but it was indeed serious. It is unfortunate that he decided to leave his position, but it was his choice, and I respect that," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
Regarding the resignation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teimuraz Janjalia, Irakli Kobakhidze denied the reports.
"Prior to this, there was a conversation between Maka Bochorishvili, [the illegitimate foreign minister], and Teimuraz Janjalia. A decision had already been made that a change was planned. In this case, Teimuraz Janjalia did not resign; it was a personnel decision made by Maka Bochorishvili. Maka Bochorishvili offered him the opportunity to remain within the system. I am not sure what his decision will be," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
The so-called Prime Minister also responded to the United States' decision to suspend the US-Georgia strategic partnership, describing it as a "temporary event." According to him, the administration of President Joe Biden is attempting to leave the worst possible legacy for the incoming administration of Donald Trump.
"However, this will have no principled significance. We will wait for the new administration and address all issues with them," Kobakhidze stated.
Following the announcement on November 28 by Georgian Dream that it would not prioritize opening negotiations for Georgia's accession to the European Union until the end of 2028, and that it would also refuse any budgetary grants from the European Union, Georgian ambassadors began resigning from their positions. Currently, the ambassadors of Georgia to Bulgaria, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Lithuania have announced their resignations.
