On the air of Rustavi 2 TV company, Kobakhidze was asked in what form he envisions the trial of the National Movement, as announced by Georgian Dream
"A lot of people have been convicted, representatives of the National Movement at high, medium, and low levels, including hundreds, and Saakashvili is serving his sentence. There are hundreds of such individuals at three different levels. However,
what we are talking about here is essentially the prosecution of a political force, that is, the prosecution of this agency, which can freely be followed by judgments at the individual level as well.
The public knows how many crimes this political power has committed. As soon as all the crimes are fully revealed, of course, all this can lead to individual punishments as well. As for the forms, we will definitely talk about it after the elections. This is a national task, I would say because when the opposition in the country is called a criminal, criminal political force, a democratic, healthy political system will never be formed in this country. This is one of the national tasks that must be solved," said Kobakhidze.
In the same interview, Irakli Kobakhidze said that there is one political force and there is no difference between the National Movement and such parties as Ahali, Girchi - More Freedom, Droa, Lelo, European Georgia, and Gakharia - For Georgia.
The founder and honorary chairman of Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili, promised to punish the National Movement. On July 16, at the opening of the ruling party's election campaign, he said that "after the elections, they will have to answer for all the crimes they committed while in power, especially for carrying out the order in 2008 and involving the country in the war."
Earlier, the deputies of Georgian Dream, who formally left the party in August 2022 and formed People's Power, demanded the trial of the National Movement and the agency, as well as the start of an investigation in connection with the August war.
