Kremlin-Aligned Sezoni TV to Broadcast in Russian with Commission's Permission

The Communications Commission has decided that Sezoni TV will broadcast in Russian in addition to Georgian. Sezoni TV disseminates Russian propaganda and anti-Western messages. This channel portrays Moscow as the guarantor of Georgia's security, stability, and territorial integrity.

According to a report by Georgia’s Reforms Associates, Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, a host for Sezoni TV, stated that there is a constant threat of a state coup in Georgia, and the only power that can deter this threat is Russia. Consequently, Georgia needs direct dialogue with Moscow.

"In another broadcast, a Sezoni TV propagandist criticized Ajara museums for not commemorating the 145th anniversary of Ajara's liberation from Ottoman occupation by Russian forces and stated that the date was being disregarded. Similar to many statements made in the past, the propagandist again emphasized that without Russia's presence in the region, Ajara would again be lost and Turkey would again carry out its occupation.

Zurab Makharadze, one of the leaders of Alt-Info, a pro-Russian group, called on people during a Sezoni TV broadcast to contact Anti-Maidan offices and register for a group. According to a propagandist, attempts to overthrow the government and drag Georgia into a war with Russia are highly likely to be unavoidable. Zurab Makharadze stated that, if called upon, group members should be ready to act in Tbilisi within 4 hours, as they are the only ones who can protect the country from war.

Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, a host for the pro-Russian TV channel Sezoni, stated that the United States is preparing for a regime change in Georgia and that Russia is the only country that can ensure Georgia's security.

The Sezoni TV propagandist, Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, stated in connection with the State Security Service (SSS) announcement that the US is directly involved in preparing a coup in Georgia. According to him, USAID prepares young people exactly as it did in 2003, before the Rose Revolution," as stated in the GRASS report.

Sezoni TV LLC was registered in 2021, and its 100% shareholder and director is the former boxer and businessman, Giorgi Kandelaki, known for his special sympathy towards the Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin. A restaurant located in the city of Gori bears Stalin's name, and its owner is Giorgi Kandelaki. He also has a Stalin's Room arranged in the same restaurant. Kandelaki is a representative of the Goreli society. Members of this organization demand the restoration of the monument to the Soviet dictator in Gori.

During Joseph Stalin's rule, hundreds of clergies were executed in Georgia, including, mostly, hierarchs of the Georgian Orthodox Church and thousands of believers, especially during the 1924 anti-Soviet uprising and then during the 1937-1938 Stalinist terror. Throughout the entire USSR, approximately 80,000 clergy and up to a million citizens were executed during Stalin's rule, solely for their religious beliefs.
