“Employees and civil servants from the Sagarejo City Council and all Kakheti City Councils were mobilized and attacked us straight away. There were stone-throwing, insults, and physical clashes. They got the retaliation, but this is not a solution, this is not normal, and the government is responsible for this,” said Levan Bezhashvili, MP from the United National Movement.
The director of the Kakheti Police Department, Teimuraz Kalandadze, arrived at the scene of the incident. He was accompanied by the chiefs of other regional divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which indicates that the police had advanced information about the expected violence, although they took no measures to prevent it. According to Kalandadze, “the investigation will do everything” to punish the perpetrators.
