On August 17, two Georgian citizens were arrested in the village of Otobaia (Bgoura) in the Gali district of occupied Abkhazia. Remiko, born in 1964, and Murtaz Tchitanavas, born in 1967, are accused of aiding in the so-called illegal crossing of the border.
The de facto government announced the arrests on August 20, stating that Chitpadbi "took advantage of a geographically favorable place of residence, which directly borders the territory of Georgia, and provided assistance in the illegal crossing of the state border."
The so-called State Security Service also announced the arrest of two Russian citizens who were allegedly aided by Archil Sekania, born in 1979, in illegally crossing the so-called border between Georgia and Abkhazia. Additionally, the de facto government noted that Sekania is a stateless person and is likely the third person arrested.
"Following the illegal detention of Georgian citizens residing in the village of Otobaya in the Gali district, occupied by the representatives of the occupation regime, it was revealed through communication via the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) hotline that another Georgian citizen had also been illegally detained by the occupation regime in the same village," the State Security Service of Georgia reported.
In this case, as well, a so-called criminal case was initiated on the so-called charge of "organization of illegal migration," and the illegally detained individual was subjected to a "judicial" 2-month "pretrial detention."
"All available mechanisms have been activated by the central government, and active work is underway to secure the immediate release of the illegally detained persons.
In response to the violent and illegal actions carried out by the occupation regime against Georgian citizens, continuous communication is being maintained through the hotline. Information will be provided to the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions and our international partners," the State Security Service noted.
