"Today, Ivanishvili's party is once again attempting to introduce Russian law in parliament against the will of the Georgian people and despite the stern warnings of Georgia's international partners. It is a Russian law that aims to divide and fracture society, a law that seeks to sabotage the European future of our country.
We demand that Ivanishvili's party immediately withdraw the Russian law, and we will do everything to prevent the law from being adopted by the Parliament of Georgia. Our goal is to protect the European choice of the Georgian people, to safeguard the choice of the vast majority of Georgian citizens who say YES to Europe, NO to the Russian law,” said Tinatin Bokuchava, the chairman of the United National Movement faction.
MP Armaz Akhvlediani said that the parliamentary opposition is as united as ever, and they will not allow anyone to create unrest in Georgia with the "scenario ordered by the Kremlin."
Members of the opposition are calling on citizens to gather at the parliament to protest against the Russian law.
"Today, not only is the discussion of the law in the Parliament of Georgia at stake, but our country is also facing a very important geopolitical choice. Therefore, I request and urge everyone to come to the Parliament of Georgia whenever you can. Those who are truly interested in where Georgia will be in a few years, come, protest, and truly make your voices heard for the Georgian Dream, said Khatia Dekanoidze, head of the Reforms Group.
"It doesn't matter which party you support or who you voted for in the last election. If you want a European future for your children, come to the Parliament today. Today, more than ever, the future of the next generations of this country is in the hands of each of us," said Salome Samadashvili, a member of Lelo.
The Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament is considering the Russian law initiated by Georgian Dream. The so-called yellow level of security was declared in the parliament, and accredited journalists from online media outlets were banned from entering the legislative body.
