Opposition Plans Rally and Overnight Sit-In Near Parliament on November 24

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Georgian News will resist the Russian intention of the Georgian Dream to the end!

On November 24, at 9:00 PM, the opposition will march from Republic Square to the Parliament, where protesters plan to spend the night. This was announced by the leaders of Unity - National Movement and the Coalition for Change.

“I would like to present the joint statement of the pro-Western opposition regarding November 24 and 25,” said Giorgi Vashadze at the rally in Heroes’ Square. “On November 24, at 9:00 PM, we will gather at Republic Square - all of us, without exception. At the same time, marches from the regions, which are being prepared and planned, will join us.

After the gathering at 9:00 PM, we will march on foot to the Parliament of Georgia, where we plan to spend the night.

Cars arriving from Western Georgia will converge at Republic Square, while those from Eastern Georgia will gather at Freedom Square the following night. For approximately two hours, these vehicles will organize a march through Tbilisi to once again awaken the city and call on everyone to join us at Rustaveli Avenue.”

Giorgi Vashadze urged citizens to attend the rally on Rustaveli Avenue on Monday when the Georgian Dream party is scheduled to convene for the first session of the 11th convocation of Parliament.

“Leave your jobs, take a day off - dedicate this one day to Georgia, to our homeland. Once again, I repeat: we often ask what Europe or America will do. It’s time to ask ourselves - what are we ready to do for our homeland? Strength in unity, and we will definitely win,” Vashadze said.

Zurab Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, also spoke about the opposition’s plans during a broadcast on the Mtavari Arkhi. According to him, November 24 is a day of “principal importance.”

“Everyone who cares about the fate of this country should come out. It is important for the West to see that people in this country will not accept some individuals attempting to influence the Russian election. The next morning, at 7:00 AM, we will already be at the Parliament building. I understand it is difficult for people to come out in the morning, which is why tomorrow’s rally is so significant,” Japaridze emphasized.

Nika Gvaramia, another opposition leader, also stressed the importance of November 24-25, while cautioning that “not everything ends there.”

“We must understand this. There will be a lot of fighting ahead. I want to appeal to the population - those who voted for the opposition and those who know the elections were rigged: let’s not wait for a crackdown or arrests. This is not the time for complacency. We must fight and take power from those who usurped the government - Bidzina Ivanishvili,” Gvaramia said during an interview with Pirveli TV.

As per the decision of Georgian Dream, the first session of Parliament will begin on Monday, November 25, at 12:00 PM, chaired by the oldest member, Lado Kakhadze. The Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, stated that no ambassadors from foreign countries were invited to the first session.

According to the Central Election Commission, which is recognized only by the ruling party, the results of the October 26 elections show the opposition won 61 out of 150 seats in Parliament, while the remaining 89 seats went to Georgian Dream. Opposition parties and President Salome Zourabichvili maintain that the elections were “totally falsified.”
