Russian Border Guards to Withdraw from Armenian-Iranian Border Next Year

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Georgian News will resist the Russian intention of the Georgian Dream to the end!

Putin and Pashinyan meeting at the Kremlin, October 8, 2024.

Starting January 1, 2025, Russian border guards will cease operations at the checkpoint on the border between Armenia and Iran. This decision was made during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which took place on October 8 in the Kremlin.

Russian border guards have been stationed on the Armenian-Iranian border based on an agreement signed in 1992. As Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister of Armenia, stated, the border troops of the National Security Service of Armenia will take full control of the border starting next year.

At the same time, Pashinyan thanked Putin for the work done by the border guards of the Russian Federal Security Service since Armenia's independence.

According to Baghdasaryan, during the meeting with President Putin, Prime Minister Pashinyan presented the details of the "Crossroads of the World" project and expressed concern about the language and expressions used by some Russian officials regarding topics related to the region.

Armenia's "Crossroads of the World" initiative aims to create a transport corridor through Armenia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran. Under this project, the corridor will operate under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of each country, without the participation of Russia.
