Senators Remind Georgian Dream that U.S. Policy Will Remain Unchanged in Coming Months

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Georgian News will resist the Russian intention of the Georgian Dream to the end!

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Ben Cardin

Republican and Democratic members of the United States Senate released a joint statement following their discussion with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Ben Cardin (Democrat), Committee Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen (Democrat), Minority Leader Jim Risch (Republican), along with Senators Chris Coons (Democrat), Lindsey Graham (Republican), and Dick Durbin (Democrat), stated that U.S. policy will remain unchanged in the coming months.

"We spoke with Georgian President Zourabichvili to convey our bipartisan support for her leadership and express our serious concern over the violent and brutal response to peaceful protests following the Georgian Dream's decision to suspend the country's European Union accession negotiations.

For days, the people of Georgia have exercised their right to peaceful protest following the unconstitutional decision to disregard the aspirations of the vast majority of Georgians who want a future in the European Union.

There is strong, bipartisan and bicameral support for the people of Georgia. This should serve as a reminder to the Georgian Dream that U.S. policy will remain unchanged in the coming months.

We welcome the Biden Administration's recent announcement of its intent to apply targeted sanctions on those responsible for undermining Georgia's institutions and violence against its people and we hope steps are taken to expedite this process," the statement reads.

The senators emphasize that the coming days will be pivotal for Georgia's future and stress the importance of the United States maintaining its 32-year tradition of supporting a fragile yet hard-fought democracy.
