Staff Changes in the Ministry of Internal Affairs: Kharazishvili Dismissed, Kupatadze and Siradze Demoted

Zviad Kharazishvili (also known as "Khareba"), head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Special Tasks Department, has resigned. Roman Kartsivadze replaced him. Kharazishvili has been sanctioned by the United Kingdom and the United States for the brutal and violent dispersal of media, opposition, and protesters during the 2024 demonstrations.

Teimuraz Kupatadze, head of the Central Criminal Police Department, has been transferred to Chairman of the Security Police Department. Kupatadze was replaced by his deputy, Davit Kiknadze. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have imposed sanctions on Kupatadze for suppressing demonstrations.

Vazha Siradze, Head of the Patrol Police, has been transferred to lead the Tbilisi Police Department. Levan Maisuradze, previously deputy head of the Tbilisi Police Department, has taken over as head of the Patrol Police.

Lasha Gogniashvili, head of the Tbilisi Police Department, has been transferred to lead the Kakheti Police Department. Gogniashvili was appointed to this position a month ago.

Teimuraz Kalandadze, head of the Kakheti Police Department, has been transferred to the head of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department.

Levan Kvitsiani has been appointed as head of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department.

Guram Natsvlishvili, head of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department, has been transferred to the head of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Police Department.

Ramaz Tatarashvili, head of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Police Department, has been appointed head of the Imereti Police Department.

Zaza Tskhakaia, head of the Imereti Police Department, has been appointed head of the Guria Police Department.

Kakhaber Muradashvili, deputy head of the Tbilisi Police Department, has been transferred to the head of the Shida Kartli Police Department.

Mariam Tabatadze has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs for Geka Geladze, the Minister of Internal Affairs in the Georgian Dream government. She will lead the economic and logistics departments, as well as the healthcare service. From 2005-2013, Mariam Tabatadze worked in various positions at the Ministry of Finance of Georgia. From 2013-2018, she was the head of the Budget Division at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth.
