The chairman of the opposition party said at a briefing on August 23 that the police officers do not see development prospects in Georgia and "they are leaving the country because they do not want to work in the security detail of a Russian oligarch."
"Thousands of police officers are leaving this country or are actively considering leaving." I have in mind the patriotic police officers employed in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Vacancies announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs only in August confirm that the outflow of personnel from law enforcement structures is massive. The Ministry opened 145 new vacancies, unprecedented in the Patrol Police Department.
Hundreds of letters are written in the agency with the request to leave the service, which is not accepted, but many run away without asking. Instead, they run away and come to America through Mexico, saying they have already left the job.
They run away because this government does not leave a place for patriotic people to stop in the country. There is so much hopelessness, so much hopelessness. They are asked to fulfil so many illegal orders that they leave their jobs on their own in this jobless country," said Nika Melia, who also highlighted the policemen's salary: "The salary of a policeman does not exceed 1,600 GEL, while their minister, Ivanishvili's bodyguard, Gomelauri prides himself with luxurious houses and, he pays his family several hundreds of thousands of GEL for a wedding, where he pays 5000 GEL for just one cake. The power that came after the change of the government of the Russian Dream will do everything to ensure that the police fight criminals and not the government's opponents."
To fill 145 vacancies in the Patrol Police Department, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the competition on August 17. According to the information published on the website of the Ministry, the competition is being held for 47 positions of patrol inspector, 38 border controller and 60 positions of border controller (a person employed under an employment contract).
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, "people come and go" in the agency.
"I don't know who is leaving the country. Some go, some come. If 4,000 people left [the agency], how many came, didn't you ask?
The more salary my police officers have, and not only the police officers, everyone, the happier I will be. The flow itself, what is called, when 4000 people passed, the same came. Now we have announced a vacancy for 140 or 145 people. The country has changed. At this time, we have 38,000 people. Imagine, for 145 people! If I'm not mistaken, around 60 or 58 was the borderline at which knowledge of the English language is required. There were many candidates, although they did not know the language to the level of welcoming a tourist, receiving and so on. We announced a vacancy for 140 people, and the news broke out. Four thousand left, 5000 may have arrived. That's all there is to this topic. People come and go," said Vakhtang Gomelauri.
