“If you work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the word ‘foreign’ should not be your focus, but rather your own! Your own country should come first!
Firstly, Gakharia’s resignation over Melia was absolutely disgusting. Secondly, diplomats who allegedly pledged allegiance to the EU at the expense of their own country’s interests. After this farce, it would be more convincing if you resign and reflect on your core values,” Tsilosani wrote on Facebook.
At present, more than 100 employees of Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs have signed a statement asserting that the decision to remove Georgia’s EU accession negotiations from the agenda until 2028 contradicts the country’s strategic interests.
Additionally, diplomats argue that this decision will lead to the country’s isolation. Without the support of Western partners, Georgia is left vulnerable to threats, which are particularly severe given the current international and security environment.
“We believe that removing the opening of EU accession negotiations from the political agenda until 2028 contradicts the requirements of Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia,” the Ministry’s current employees stated.
Yesterday, November 28, the illegitimate Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced Georgian Dream’s decision to suspend the EU accession process. According to Kobakhidze, the issue of opening accession negotiations will not be on the agenda until the end of 2028, and the government will reject EU budget grants. President Salome Zourabichvili described this decision as marking a “constitutional coup,” stating that the illegitimate government has declared war on its own people.
