TV Pirveli Crew Attacked Near Election Station in Kvemo Khodasheni

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

In the village of Kvemo Khodasheni, near the 16th election precinct in the Telavi municipality, the camera crew of TV Pirveli station was attacked, resulting in damaged equipment. According to journalist Mariam Makasarashvili, she and her operator became targets of the attack after documenting instances of pressure and bribery directed at voters by individuals mobilized near the polling station.

"We captured footage of how they went to the polling station with lists and distributed money. The individual who attacked us was removed from the premises because of that. We provided the patrol police officers with detailed information on how events were unfolding at this polling station. However, the person who attacked me and my cameraman and destroyed our equipment is still here. I informed the patrol police officers about this, but they did not respond and left the area. We have been waiting for the criminal police for over an hour," said Mariam Makasarashvili.

It was necessary to call an emergency medical aid team to the scene of the incident. According to Mariam Makasarashvili, the cameraman sustained injuries to his face and received first aid.

Today, in Akhmeta municipality, observers from the non-governmental organization Civil Advocacy Center were attacked in the 11th election precinct of Matani. Journalist Gela Mtivlishvili reported that he and the organization's lawyer, Vladimer Kutateladze, were attacked after they asked the so-called spectators and Georgian Dream coordinators to leave the entrance of the district and the surrounding area.
