‘’What do you think is supposed to scare me, a mention of the prosecutor's office? What should discourage me and force me to abandon this country? Don’t hope for that. Who can get in my way of fulfilling my pledge to the country? Just like I once removed the Russian bases from this country, and, by the way, they organized a trial for me then too, I will remain faithful to my word and oath and devote myself to this country, its independence, and the freedom of its people to the end on the way to Europe,’’ stated the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili in Parliament, where the issue of her impeachment is being discussed.

Previously, the Chairman of the ruling party Irakli Kobakhidze hinted at the possible criminal prosecution of the President.
‘’She is going to violate [the Constitution] tomorrow too, what’s going to stop her? She is still relying on the support of the National Movement. What she cannot rely on is the Prosecutor’s Office and a criminal investigation.
‘’It is difficult for me to say from the legal point of view on the spot, but in light of the conclusion of the Constitutional Court, future violations of the Constitution may already amount to a criminal offense,’’ said Kobakhidze.
On October 16, the Constitutional Court published its conclusion, which, by 6 votes against 3, established that the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, violated the Constitution by holding meetings with the leaders of the EU countries without the government's consent. 100 MP’s votes are needed to unseat the President, which the Georgian Dream comes short of. The opposition does not support the impeachment.
In today’s Parliament session on the case of impeachment, the President said that she did not violate the essence and the spirit of the Constitution.
‘’If you don't believe me, you can check with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Charles Michel, Emmanuel Macron, or Alar Karis, Edgars Rinkevics, Gitanas Nauseda... These are the leaders on whom the granting of our status depends, and it must be said, that with this impeachment attempt you insult not at all me, but these leaders and push the country towards isolation. At the same time, the contrast that you are treating the occupying country and its leaders with utmost respect speaks volumes, and you are not even embarrassed that you are openly getting praised by them. You are also not embarrassed that the comments from you and from the occupying country in my direction exactly coincide,’’ said Zourabichvili.
She added that she expects nothing out of ‘today’s farce’. I know full well that the decision has already been made, somewhere above, in the higher brass of the party, or somewhere in the north, where they are well aware of who will stand in their way into this country everywhere and always.
The only thing still to be decided is the result of this vote – which depends on how many you recruited, some by blackmail, others with bribes or promoting a son (I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Constitutional Judge Kikilashvili on the success of his son!), or by using someone else’s vote card, by which you already overcame a previous veto,’’ said the President during her speech.
