Employees of the Tbilisi, Adjara, Kakheti, and Guria police departments recently arrested 11 people on charges of drug crimes. Two of them are citizens of foreign countries.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the following individuals were arrested: G.K., born in 1988; E.M., born in 1995; G.T., born in 1984; L. Ch., born in 2000; M. P, born in 1998; M.I., born in 1999; G.J., born in 1979; K.D., born in 1969; Sh.G., born in 1974; Also, citizens of foreign countries: A.C., born in 1989 and A.G., born in 1993

"As a result of the complex investigation conducted by the employees of the Central Criminal Police Department, it was established that A.TS., a foreign citizen, owned a shop selling drugs on the Internet application Telegram. The narcotic drug Marijuana was being sold through this application.

As part of the investigation, in the same case, the ally of A.C. - G.K. was also involved. During the search of the personal and residential apartments of the accused, the law enforcement officers seized the narcotic drug Marijuana and the plant containing the narcotic drug Cannabis as evidence.

At the same time, during the personal search of the detained E.M. by the department's employees, a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs, including Heroin and Marijuana, were seized as evidence.

The Tbilisi Police Department Isani-Samgori Main Division Employees seized 20 packs of the narcotic drug Alpha PVP as evidence during a personal search of GT in Tbilisi. The accused had planned to place the drugs in different locations for further sale.

Employees of the main division of the Tbilisi Police Department, Vake-Saburtalo, arrested three persons - L.Ch., M.P., and M.I. - as a result of investigative activities carried out at different times. During the personal search, as well as from the different locations indicated by them, the narcotic drug "Marijuana" prepared for sale was seized as evidence.

As a result of the search conducted in the apartment of foreign citizen A.G. in Batumi, the employees of the Khelvachauri District Division of the Adjara Police Department seized Marijuana and a particularly large amount of the cannabis plant containing a significant quantity of the narcotic drug. The investigation established that the accused cultivated the plant in special greenhouses arranged in the house.

The employees of the Sagarejo regional division of the Kakheti Police Department, who is currently under a suspended sentence, seized Marijuana as evidence as a result of the search conducted in the house and auxiliary warehouses of G.J.

As a result of the personal search of K.D. and Sh.G. the employees of the Guria Police Department in Ozurgeti Municipality seized the narcotic drug Buprenorphine as evidence," said the statement released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The investigation is being conducted into the facts of illegal purchase, storage, and preparation for the sale of large and particularly large amounts of narcotic drugs, illegal purchase, storage, and sale of Marijuana, attempted sale, illegal planting, and cultivation of plants containing narcotic drugs. According to the Internal Affairs Ministry, these crimes are punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

On March 20, during his speech in Parliament, the Internal Affairs Minister, Vakhtang Gomelauri, identified the illegal drug trade as an "Important challenge." According to him, in 2023, the detection rate of drug crimes increased by 21% compared to 2022.
