Stalin Foundation 2024 was registered with the public registry at the beginning of the year. Its director is Giorgi Kandelaki, and Zurab Marghishvili and Boris Mdinaridze are among the founders.
As per the registration documents, the organization's goals are: studying the history of Stalin, introducing the Stalin phenomenon to the public, and seeking financial resources for organizing cultural events. In the document originally submitted to the public registry, one of the goals was listed as "holding Stalin debates on TV and in the press" instead of "organizing cultural events."
Giorgi Kandelaki is currently not in Georgia, and we were unable to inquire about the activities the Stalin Foundation has implemented over the past few months.
In 2021, Giorgi Kandelaki founded the broadcasting company Season TV LLC, of which he is the director and 100% owner. According to the Media Development Foundation report, Season TV has a distinctly Kremlinist editorial policy and is known for its anti-Western stance. One of the faces of the channel and the host of the "Day's Summary" program is the pro-Russian Nikoloz Khavanadze.
Additionally, Giorgi Kandelaki owns a restaurant in the city of Gori, which he named Joseph in honour of the Soviet dictator.
