Georgian Dream intends to initiate and adopt a draft law in the Parliament of Georgia that will “protect society from pseudo-liberal ideology and its inevitable harmful consequences.” The executive secretary of the ruling party, Mamuka Mdinaradze, addressed this issue during today's briefing.

Georgian society will not tolerate pseudo-liberal propaganda, Mdinaradze said.
“We are witnessing severe trends in the spread of pseudo-liberal ideology worldwide. This propaganda is taking increasingly crude forms, with dire consequences. International studies confirm that in several countries where pseudo-liberal ideology is actively spreading, the percentage of 18-25-year-olds identifying as having a non-traditional sexual orientation is already around 20%, and even higher in some areas. It is alarming that this figure has tripled in 7 years, coinciding with a period of particularly active propaganda in this direction.
In 2017, we restricted the legalization of same-sex marriage by explicitly stating in the Constitution of Georgia that marriage is the union of a woman and a man for the purpose of creating a family. Despite this, we may face a situation where we are asked to enact so-called civil partnership legislation. We have already encountered such a case when there was a demand from foreigners to introduce the terminology “male and female and gender equality,” which would have required us to recognize genders other than female and male. We had to undergo a serious struggle to reject this demand. Today, pseudo-liberals worldwide campaign against terms such as mother and father, wife and husband, etc. They advocate for the introduction of 'gender-neutral' terminology such as parent 1 and parent 2, etc. A logical continuation of this trend could be the removal of gender markers from passports. Every year in Georgia, there are attempts to promote the so-called Pride events, despite sociological studies confirming that more than 90% of the population of Georgia rightly perceives it as propaganda and is opposed to holding Pride events. Moreover, such aggressive propaganda actually hinders the protection of the rights of people of different sexual orientations.
There is a propaganda effort promoting the idea that children should choose their own gender. Several states have legalized gender reassignment surgeries and related medical procedures for children. Large companies, media outlets, and the film industry are actively used to spread this ideology. We have seen examples of this in Georgia, such as in animated films, television series, and other media. This propaganda has nothing to do with the protection of human rights; its aim is to popularize a non-traditional way of life. The pseudo-liberal ideology poses a serious threat to society, as confirmed by international studies.
Thus, the parliamentary majority believes that we must actively oppose this propaganda and we must use legislative mechanisms for this purpose. Therefore, we have decided to prepare a legislative initiative that will protect society from pseudo-liberal ideology and its inevitable harmful consequences,” Mdinaradze said.
Georgian Dream will prepare the draft law in the next two weeks and initiate it in parliament.
“The rights of each of our citizens must be, and will be, protected on a very principled basis, regardless of their way of life. However, deliberate propaganda of an unconventional way of life is what we are responsible for confronting for the sake of Georgian society and its future,” said Mamuka Mdinaradze, calling on everyone who “feels responsible for these values” to actively involve and support the initiative.
