Abkhazia Advises Georgia to Establish Diplomatic Relations with Russia

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

The de facto Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the occupied Abkhazia responded to Kakha Kaladze, the General Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream and the Mayor of Tbilisi, who stated that "it would be good to take effective steps" following Sergey Lavrov's remarks about assisting reconciliation with "the countries of Abkhazia and South Ossetia."

"We would like to remind Georgian politicians that Georgia itself has relations with Russia that need to be regulated because, as is known, there are currently no diplomatic relations between Georgia and Russia. Therefore, instead of speculating with false stereotypes and other mythical terms about “Georgia's territorial integrity” during the pre-election marathon, Georgian politicians should start by establishing diplomatic relations with Russia," the so-called Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

According to them, the "Republic of Abkhazia" and the Russian Federation are strategic allies, and Abkhazia-Russia "interstate relations" are based on mutually beneficial treaties and agreements, including those that define the presence of a Russian military base in Abkhazia and the joint protection of Abkhazia's "state border."

"As for the possibility of establishing some kind of relationship with the neighboring country of Georgia in the future, our position remains unchanged. Georgia should recognize the Republic of Abkhazia as a sovereign and independent state and sign a legally binding document on the non-use of force," the de facto Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is ready to help Georgia and its "neighboring countries" - Abkhazia and South Ossetia - normalize relations if the "countries" themselves are interested in it. The government of Georgia evaluated the mentioned statement positively. According to Kakha Kaladze, the General Secretary of Georgian Dream, it would be good to take effective steps already. "Even regarding certain parts of our territories, which are occupied and where Russian military bases are currently located, along with these statements, it would also be beneficial to begin developing an action plan to withdraw these units and troops from the territories of Georgia," Kaladze said.
