Nikoloz Gelenidze fought in the ranks of "Tbilisi" unit. According to the battalion commander, Gocha Khorava, on November 16, Gelenidze participated in the operation to retrieve the body of Levan Lobzhanidze, who died at the end of October, from the front line, when he was caught in bombardment.
"An operation was planned to recover Levan's body. On the way, the boys were bombarded and [Nikoloz] was killed. They couldn't reach the site to get Lobzhanidze out. We have two wounded Azerbaijanis, our brothers, who were with Nikoloz. Their lives are not in danger," said Gocha Khorava.
The body of Nikoloz Gelenidze has already been extracted from the hot spot. On November 20, he will be given a civil funeral in Kyiv, in the church of St. Volodymyr, after which he will be repatriated to Georgia.
Gelenidze was from a family displaced from Abkhazia. His family lives in Poti.
