The government of Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of provocation and holds the military-political leadership of the country responsible for the incident. According to them, on February 12, between 20:50 and 23:40, in the border zone of Tavush province, the Armenian military fired towards Azerbaijani positions.
The Azerbaijani side highlights that on February 13, units of the State Border Service conducted a “revenge operation” in response to the “provocation” from the previous day. This operation resulted in the destruction of the military post situated near the Nerkin-Hand settlement.
This provocation of Armenia is a serious blow to the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Moreover, such a provocation that was undertaken exactly in the territories observed by the European Union Mission in Armenia raises serious concerns about the aims and purposes of this Mission.
The Ministry of Defense of Armenia refuted Azerbaijan's allegation of the Armenian military opening fire.
Currently, the situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border remains stable. According to the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, shooting in the Nerkin-Handi area ceased by 09:30.
