On March 15-17, the elections for the President of the Russian Federation will be held in the occupied territories of Georgia. Twelve polling stations will be opened for voting in the Tskhinvali region, and thirty in Abkhazia.
"Each of you who holds a Russian passport faces an important choice, one that will impact not only the future of Russia but our shared future as well. We must support those who have supported us, those who have contributed to the development and prosperity of our independence. This is an opportunity to show our appreciation and respect. Of course, we are referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose personal contribution to the development of independent and sovereign Abkhazia is invaluable. On March 17, 2024, we will have the opportunity to support Russia, to support Vladimir Putin," said the de facto president.
Russia is Abkhazia's best friend, neighbor, and the only window to the world, Aslan Bzhania said. "The Russian Federation was the first to recognize our right to self-determination. We want to live in our own home, speak our language, develop our culture and economy. It is our right to be who we are," he noted.
Bzhania thanked Russia "for the support and assistance provided to the population of Abkhazia in recent decades."
The candidates for the presidency of Russia are the incumbent President Vladimir Putin and his three "opponents" - Nikolay Kharitonov (Communist Party of Russia), Leonid Slutsky (Liberal Democratic Party of Russia), and Vladislav Davankov (New People's Party). Putin is running for the presidency of Russia for the fifth time. Current legislation allows him to remain in this position until 2036.
