The National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia ratified the agreement “On visa-free travel of citizens between the Republic of Armenia and Georgia”. The document has already been ratified by the Parliament of Georgia, which means that soon, citizens of Georgia and Armenia will be able to cross the border only with an identity card (ID card), without presenting a passport.

“Relations with Georgia are one of the priorities of our country's foreign policy,” said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Mnatsakan Safaryan, during his speech in the Parliament on June 26.
According to the Deputy Minister's explanation, the document stipulates that the citizens of one state, regardless of their place of permanent residence, have the right to enter, stay in transit, and exit the territory of the other state without a visa during any 180 days following the date of crossing the border of the receiving state, for a period not exceeding 90 days, on the basis of the documents confirming the identity and citizenship of the citizens of Armenia and Georgia.
The agreement between the two countries was signed on January 12, 2023, although ratification by both sides was required for its entry into force. Until now, citizens of Armenia and Georgia could cross the interstate border with their passports and without a visa.
According to the statistical data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2022, 1,018,771 people crossed the border from Armenia to Georgia. According to the number of border crossings (entry), Armenia was in the top three countries, behind Russia (1,459,541) and Turkey (1,030,199). Last year, Armenia was also in the top three in terms of tourist visits. According to the data of the National Tourism Agency, 742,593 citizens of Armenia traveled to Georgia.
