A video of the illegal action was recorded by an observer from the My Vote monitoring mission, after which he was physically assaulted and expelled from the district.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, described the information being circulated as "disturbing" and urged the Marneuli District Election Commission to make an "appropriate decision."
"There are reports online that at the 69th polling station in Marneuli, ballot papers were allegedly stuffed into the ballot box. This is disturbing information.
The election administration, if this information is confirmed, will not allow such isolated, managed, or manipulative incidents to undermine the months of effort we have put into Election Day.
I want to urgently call on the Marneuli District Election Commission to investigate the situation, convene a session of the commission, and make an appropriate decision," Kalandarishvili stated.
According to the Chairman of the CEC, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has begun an investigation into the incident.
"I would like to request that the Ministry implement the relevant procedures as quickly as possible so that we can provide the public with objective and detailed information regarding this issue within our competence. All such cases, whether true or not, certainly damage the election environment, undermine the integrity of the voting day, and harm the reputation of the institution," Giorgi Kalandarishvili said.
