The forest fire in Borjomi Valley, near Akhaldaba township, has been extinguished, based on information released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The agency reports that firefighters and rescuers remain at the scene, working to extinguish smoldering areas. Approximately one hectare of forest has been burned.

"In order to ensure security and monitoring, representatives of the Emergency Management Service will remain at the site throughout the night," stated the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Residents of Akhaldaba noticed smoke near the forest yesterday afternoon. Since the evening, locals, along with firefighters and rescuers from the Emergency Management Service, have been working to extinguish the fire. According to the Emergency Management Service, intense localization and extinguishing efforts by firefighters and rescuers continued throughout the night, with more than 150 firefighters battling the blaze. Starting around 10:00 AM today, four Border Police helicopters were also involved in the efforts.
The cause of the forest fire is unknown, but one possible explanation is negligence.
According to statistical data from the National Forestry Agency, 613 cases of fire were recorded in the forest fund under the agency's management between 2012 and 2023. The highest number of fires, 188 cases, was recorded in 2020, while the largest area burned was in 2017, totaling 1,299.9 hectares.
