"On October 20, we are organizing the march titled Georgia Votes European Union in Tbilisi, to which we invite everyone for whom Georgia's European choice is important," said Londa Toloraia, a representative of My Vote.
According to Eka Gigauri, director of the non-governmental organization Transparency International - Georgia, the planned march is a tool to reaffirm Georgia's aspiration toward the European Union for Western partners.
"This march and demonstration are intended for those who choose the European Union.
We remember the great unity we had during the March protests, and it will likely be very important to show our Western partners and the European Union that Georgia indeed chooses the European Union. We are united around this goal.
Different groups will likely have their own locations. In this case, I think it is important to unite people from various sides in Freedom Square. Of course, there will be a procession on both banks of the Mtkvari River. We, as civil society, will also have our location," Gigauri said.
"The upcoming elections are truly of the power and importance of a referendum, where citizens will express their choice: whether they want to move toward Europe or whether Georgia will remain under Russian influence. Accordingly,
The goal of this march is for the citizens of Georgia to once again make it clear to the whole world that the majority of the population in this country chooses Europe," said Nino Lomjaria, the former public defender and founder of the European Orbit of Georgia.
Representatives of the opposition parties stated that they would certainly join the march to show their support for Euro-Atlantic integration.
"The gathering on the streets of Tbilisi on October 20 should send a message to Bidzina Ivanishvili that he should not dare to manipulate the election process and must respect the decision made by the Georgian people.
Let's assume that those who attend are protecting not only the European future but also their own votes beforehand in the elections," said Salome Samadashvili, a member of the Strong Georgia coalition.
The exact time and place of the procession will be announced later.
