As per the summary minutes of the Central Election Commission, 225 members of the 300-member electoral college participated in the election. 224 voted for Mikheil Kavelashvili, and one ballot, cast by Ada Marshania, a member of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Abkhazia, was deemed invalid.
"It is a bad candidate. You should think more carefully when choosing a candidate. You, all together, have harmed Georgia, yourselves, and the political system. I do not vote," said Marshania before placing the blank ballot in the box.
Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former football player and deputy, was the only candidate for the presidency.
The inauguration ceremony for Kavelashvili as president is scheduled for December 29. From that day, the authority of the fifth president of the country, Salome Zourabichvili, will formally end. Zourabichvili maintains that she remains the legitimate president, stating that her "mandate continues until there is a legitimately elected parliament that will legitimately elect a new president to replace her."
