"I was there today, and the heating is off. How vile are the Georgian Dream people that they only heat two rooms in the presidential palace? I don’t even have words to describe it. When we gathered, they told us that perhaps one or two rooms were heated, and they moved us there. This is not the first time it has happened. By the way, when I was there two weeks ago, I asked why it was cold, and they didn’t heat us. The heaters were on, just like in the 1990s. Can you imagine? The public should know what vile people we are dealing with and the methods they use to insult others. In doing so, they insult themselves," Khazaradze said during a broadcast on TV company Pirveli.
The presidential administration has declined to comment on the matter.
On December 12, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) were also at the Orbeliani Palace. Photos and video footage from the meeting show heaters plugged into power sources.
The term of Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zourabichvili, expires at the end of the year. She is the last president to be directly elected by universal suffrage.
The sixth president will be elected for a five-year term by an open ballot in a 300-member electoral college. The election in the illegitimate parliament will take place tomorrow, with Mikheil Kavelashvili, the sole candidate nominated by the Georgian Dream party, participating.
Opposition parties have declared the December 14 election illegitimate and refuse to recognize the illegally elected president.
The inauguration of the Georgian Dream-backed president is scheduled for December 29. Formally, Salome Zourabichvili’s presidential powers will end on this date.
On December 13, the illegitimate parliament amended the law On the Special State Protection Service with 85 votes in favor and none against. As a result, Zourabichvili will no longer be entitled to state protection for one year after the end of her presidential term.
