The illegitimate government of Georgia has refused to open negotiations with the European Union until the end of 2028. This was stated by the illegitimate Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, during a briefing at the Georgian Dream office.

“We are a proud and self-respecting nation with a great history. Accordingly, it is categorically unacceptable for us to view integration into the European Union as a mercy that the EU should extend to us.
Over the past three years, the European Parliament has adopted five resolutions full of lies and insults, which were not only rejected by Georgian society but also by the European Commission and the European Council.
The entire country witnessed the interference of some European politicians and bureaucrats in our parliamentary elections, which was a gross violation of democratic electoral principles. Today, these same individuals are attacking the legitimacy of the elections. Furthermore, they are attacking the OSCE/ODIHR election assessment mission, which deemed the elections competitive, with the same attitude as the leaders of Georgia’s radical opposition.
Today, we have decided not to place the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028. We are also refusing any budget grants from the European Union until the end of 2028,” said Kobakhidze.
According to him, “From a technical standpoint, only one and a half to two years are needed from the opening of negotiations to EU accession. No one has planned the expansion of the European Union to the east before 2030. This shows how artificial and, accordingly, extremely offensive the blackmail that some European politicians and bureaucrats are conducting against the Georgian state regarding the opening of negotiations is.”
“Georgia is not being asked for reforms, but for steps that would mean renouncing our dignity. This includes the repeal of the law on transparency of NGOs, the repeal of the law against LGBT propaganda, the imposition of sanctions, the collapse of the Georgian economy with our own hands, the release of Mikheil Saakashvili, and so on.
We will only move forward toward the European Union with dignity. This is the mandate of the Georgian people, the 1 120 000 voters who have expressed their firm trust in Georgian Dream and its course.
The end of 2028 is when Georgia will be economically prepared to open negotiations for EU accession in 2030. We will not stop and will continue to fulfill the obligations stipulated in the Association Agenda and the Free Trade Agreement. As stated in the government program approved today, by 2028, we will have fulfilled more than 90 percent of these obligations. At the same time, we will meet these obligations with our own financing, without any financial assistance from the European Union. We intend not to enter the European Union as beggars, standing on one leg, but to join it with dignity, with a functioning democratic system and a strong economy.
We will continue our journey toward the European Union, but we will not allow anyone to leave us in a state of constant blackmail and manipulation, which is completely offensive to our country and society. We believe our decision today will make a significant contribution to improving relations between Georgia and the European Union.
By 2030, Georgia will be more ready than all other candidate countries to join the European Union,” Kobakhidze noted.
The European Parliament today adopted a resolution by 444 votes, calling on the European Union to impose sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili, Irakli Kobakhidze, and other high-level officials. The European Parliament believes that the Georgian parliamentary elections should be held again under international supervision.
As per a statement published on the European Parliament's website, the October 26 elections, which were neither free nor fair, are another manifestation of the country’s ongoing democratic backsliding, for which Georgian Dream bears full responsibility.
